Robert g bartle introduction to real analysis
Introduction to Real Analysis by Robert G. BartleIn recent years, mathematics has become valuable in many areas, including economics and management science as well as the physical sciences, engineering and computer science. Therefore, this book provides the fundamental concepts and techniques of real analysis for readers in all of these areas. It helps one develop the ability to think deductively, analyze mathematical situations and extend ideas to a new context. Like the first two editions, this edition maintains the same spirit and user-friendly approach with some streamlined arguments, a few new examples, rearranged topics, and a new chapter on the Generalized Riemann Integral.

Book:Robert G. Bartle/Introduction to Real Analysis/Fourth Edition
Despite almost identical titles, these are two very different books; readers would need to be very familiar with the contents of the first if they were to have any chance of making progress with the second. Moreover, each of the books is claimed to be of relevance to the needs of applied scientists etc. Yet another common feature is that they have now been around for many years, meaning that some MAA members may possibly have a working knowledge of either, or both, publications. The Introduction to Real Analysis seems to be a third edition or later and is said to be accessible to those students who have studied calculus. But what type of student and which sort of calculus? In my view, if this is to be a first encounter with analysis, then students should be in the UK good honours candidates or in the USA strong maths majors. For most students, however, this treatment would be too challenging as an introduction to real analysis.

A strong foundation in real analysis gives students a broadly-applicable skill set in deductive reasoning and analytical math, strengthening the creative thought processes required to extend ideas to new situations. Now in its fourth edition, Introduction to Real Analysis provides a rigorous and comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of this versatile area of mathematics. Extensive use of examples and exercises underscores the necessity of hands-on learning and independent practice, while detailed appendices and early review chapters help students strengthen individual weaknesses to improve comprehension of new material.
