Red wind raymond chandler characters
Red Wind: A Collection of Short Stories by Raymond ChandlerA dame loses her pearls. Said dame saves a detective. Said detective tries to recover those pearls for her.
Then a little dude ends up dead. A slightly odd couple from West LA gets roped in. An investigating copper gets duped and then gets sore about it. And thats not all! I mean, geez louise, theres a lot going on for such a short story.
Red Wind is a fast talkin, fast movin street-level crime thriller from Raymond Chandler that only comes up short due to it being so dang short. Seriously, this story could use a few more pages to breathe a bit more.

While my assumptions were correct, I did however welcome the fact that the author managed to embellish these stock characters and plot structure, for example, rather than taking the case, Dalmas is inadvertently thrust into the action, first by witnessing the murder and then by running into Lola in his building. Another twist on the typical detective plot is that the highly coveted pearl necklace is in fact a glass fake. Having previously read detective fiction set in a similar time also provided me with a familiarity for the settings- urban nightspots like bars and hotels, police stations and docks. In accordance with the genre, the author uses the suspense code to create tension and mystery for the reader. It takes a while for the reader to discover the identities of some of the characters that Dalmas interacts with.
Business is as lite as the beer if lite beer had been invented, with only one other customer in the bar. The drunken man has a pile of dimes in front of him and is pounding back shots of rye like there is no tomorrow, which there technically never is. Another man walks into a bar. Marlowe goes back to his apartment. He suggests she slip out of that hat and jacket and into his apartment to avoid the cops. While he is mixing some drinks, she pulls out a gun. The dame comes up behind him and pokes a gun in his ribs.
