Big Ben by Kayleen Reusser

The life story of Londons Big Ben is told in great detail in one of the books in Purple Toad Publishings Building on a Dream series. This engaging narrative includes information from the history of the bells in England to the regulation of clocks. Big Bens name may be a mystery, but its creation in two foundries, its dimensions, and the meaning it brings to the British people are clearly explained. The author weaves in facts about the development of clocks and time-keeping and how the clock and the bell interact. I was fascinated by the way the bell and the clock have been going strong (despite a few hiccups) for the past 150 years. This book features a table of contents, index, further reading list and internet sites, chapter notes, glossary, and a chronology. Students will find this book very useful for writing reports.
