I Hate Everyone But You by Gaby Dunn

Gaby Dunn and Allison Raskin’s I Hate Everyone But You is a hilarious and heartfelt debut novel about new beginnings, love and heartbreak, and ultimately the power of friendship.

Dear Best Friend,
I can already tell that I will hate everyone but you.
Ava Helmer
(that brunette who won’t leave you alone)

Were still in the same room, you weirdo.
Stop crying.

So begins a series of texts and emails sent between two best friends, Ava and Gen, as they head off to their first semesters of college on opposite sides of the country. From first loves to weird roommates, heartbreak, self-discovery, coming out and mental health, the two of them document every wild and awkward moment to each other. But as each changes and grows into her new life, will their friendship be able to survive the distance?

As a child, Kid Lit author Angela Cervantes loved reading books, but mourned the moment the books came to an end. So, when it was time to shut the cover, she lifted her own pen and wrote additional adventures for her favorite characters. Now, as an adult, the author of " Gaby, Lost and Found " has employed her love of writing to pen the influence of friendship, animals, immigration and hope in the lives of children, by use of diverse and strong characters. Lewis, Beverly Cleary and many other others. Her early affection for stories, reading and books manifested into a love for writing, and triggered questions about identity.

All these adjectives describe Gaby, Lost and Found , by Angela Cervantes, about a girl who wants to rescue animals but soon finds herself in need of a permanent home. Gaby, her friends, and even the adult guardians in her life make for a realistic and endearing cast. Through the suspenseful plot, readers will learn about shelters and immigration, besides being entertained. What struck me foremost is how true-to-life but also sympathetic the characters are. Gaby loves animals. But she still feels a little upset when a cat in a tree ends up ruining her sweater. Her best friend Alma is a true-blue friend who will help Gaby get her wish for their class project to be helping out an animal shelter—although she is more than a little disgusted by the amount of poop involved.
