It is pretty much exactly what was promised. It provides a high-level overview of the types of electric motors out there, and how to understand and compare them; With a hint of theory. Personally, I wished for more technical details. There is not much discussion of second-order things like cogging torque. It seemed geared towards large, industrial motor applications. It doesnt cover more specialized things, such as the variety of voice-coil drives (e.g. those used to actuate hard-drive read heads).

Despite the lack of depth, and maybe even because of it for some, it is a great introduction and worth a read for anyone interested in using, designing, or understanding electric motors.
