Urban escape and evasion class
Swim Workouts and Water Rescue Skills: Techniques to Swim Faster, Longer, and Safer by Sam FuryThis, like all of Sam Fury´s manuals, is a good, no-fluff guide to the subject. Short and punchy and illustrated throughout, this little book has something in it for both beginners and experienced swimmers. The manual is split into three sections, Efficient Swimming, Safety and Self Water Rescue Skills and Water Rescue. It links in with the author´s website - Survival Fitness Plan.
I was given a copy by the author and sincerely hope I´ll never have to use most of it.
I have an interview with the author on my website for anyone interested.

10 Lessons From an Urban Escape and Evasion Class
While on an international business trip, you are kidnapped and held for ransom. Or, a terrorist attack closes the business district of your city and you find yourself in a dangerous, chaotic fix. How do you stay alive? How do you get to safety on your own? This class provides leading-edge skills to civilians who live or work in challenging urban environments or who may find themselves in a destabilizing urban area during a crisis.
When we set out to research how to survive unlawful incarcerations, we discovered that there are very few subject-matter experts — at least known outside of covert circles. However, we lucked out when we interviewed Kevin Reeve. You know, like three-letter governmental agencies. Naturally, we jumped at a chance to learn directly from Reeve. Think tourists who may have been in Turkey during the recent coup. Picture commuters on their daily route home when a riot erupts. Imagine a natural disaster in which emergency services are too overwhelmed to help you.

We will give you the skills to help defend yourself and others in case of disaster, home invasion, terrorist attack, or an active shooter situation to just name a few. We will not only teach you how not to become a victim but we will teach what to do if you become one. Our 3 Day courses will teach you how to defend yourself, escape illegal custody, avoid recapture and get to safety. It is our goal to make everyone a survivor.
The level two will build on the skills learned and practiced in level one, in addition to introducing new skills. Finally, the level three course will review and implement all of the skills learned in practical exercises. Adaptiv Concepts maintain small student to instructor ratios, in order to make sure everyone gets one on one time and all questions are answered.

What if armed men tied you up and took you to an unknown location? What options do you have and how do you get away? No idea? No problem. This is where we come in! Its purpose is to teach you a unique set of "unconventional skills" in order to save your life and the lives of your loved ones should your worse nightmares suddenly turn into reality. The training consists of one day of classroom learning and one day of field application.
At first, there were riots. I travel light and only on foot during periods of low-light. Each day is becoming more difficult to find food and this life on the move is hard on me. There are quiet whispers of a community miles outside of this hellish city working together to survive. The society we live in is a thin veneer that when stripped away, will force us to make hard decisions for ourselves, our families and our communities. There are no hard fast answers in any incident. The skillsets we obtain before the hammer drops are a huge determinant for how and if we survive.
Teaching you how to protect yourself in towns and cities and if necessary take the appropriate actions to escape the city and get away to safety. This increases the dangers we find within cities as criminal elements seek to control the situation and social dynamics. Urban populations are focussed on their daily lives with scant regard to those around them meaning in turn that despite the large population one is easily isolated. If we add the complexity of being abroad and social unrest, which recent history has shown to happen very quickly, we can find ourselves needing to evade and extract for these areas. Can we rely on the local population or even police forces?
