The Chick and the Duckling by Mirra Ginsburg

The Chick and the Duckling by Bladimir Suteev is about a chick and a duckling playing together. They can do just about anything and go just about everywhere together until they go for a swim.

I actually read this book to one of my daycare kids and I had her tell me what she thought was going to happen next. Because of the pattern and repition in the book such as, the duckling...(doing some action) the chick followed, the little girl who I was reading it to picked up on that pattern of the chick following the duckling. She understood what was going to happen after I read what the duckling did. I love watching young children pick up on these skills and begin developing those reading skills. I believe this book would be a great book for young readers because of that repitition.

The Chick and the Duckling (read aloud)

This charming tale, with brightly colored illustrations by Jose Aruego and Ariane Dewey, will delight small children who are discovering the world around them. As Duckling sets off to explore the world, Chick is close behind, mimicking each of his actions.

This charming tale, with brightly colored illustrations by Jose Aruego and Ariane Dewey, will delight small children who are discovering the world around them. As Duckling sets off to explore the world, Chick is close behind, mimicking each of his actions. But when Duckling decides to go for a swim, his friend is in for a surprise. Jose Aruego and Ariane Dewey have illustrated many books together—he draws the outlines and designs the pages; she paints the illustrations. Aruego, a native of the Philippines, was a lawyer before becoming an illustrator, and now lives in New York City.

Cute book with with a bit of a surprise ending. It's not the greatest but my son loves it, second time we checked it out and he remembered it from quite awhile ago.
