Mind the Gap. Mind the gap between reality and the mind. On my first read through Mind the Gap 1 , I was taken aback by the depth of story and fantastic artwork. On my second read, I was determined to solve the mystery and use the hidden clues to do it. On my third read, I realized that this story has a much, much bigger scope than I initially thought, and that my burning questions would have to wait. Most popular for his gorgeous Morning Glories covers, Rodin Esquejo fills McCann's world with realistic looking characters that have all sorts of quirks. They are tall and short, light-skinned and dark-skinned, ugly and handsome, and -- most importantly -- they all feel real.
I had quite high expectations for Mind the Gap , despite knowing very little about it. I have of course quite exhaustively documented how Image have been on a roll lately, and this seemed like it could be another stellar new issue 1. Sadly, upon picking up Mind the Gap 1 this week, I found the end product to be a bit disappointing. I think my main problem with the comic lies with the visuals. It is drawn by the Morning Glories cover team of Rodin Esquejo and Sonia Oback, who have provided some lovely covers for that series, and give us a couple of similarly lovely covers for this one: I had difficulty choosing which variant I wanted to have!
