The Image: A Guide to Pseudo-Events in America by Daniel J. Boorstin

First published in 1962, this wonderfully provocative book introduced the notion of “pseudo-events”—events such as press conferences and presidential debates, which are manufactured solely in order to be reported—and the contemporary definition of celebrity as “a person who is known for his well-knownness.” Since then Daniel J. Boorstin’s prophetic vision of an America inundated by its own illusions has become an essential resource for any reader who wants to distinguish the manifold deceptions of our culture from its few enduring truths.

When I say straight edge, it means so much more than just being drug-free. From the ashes of Violent Reaction rise the stomping crew Rated X! Protein is a crucial band from the city of Krakow featuring members of Vicious X Reality and Radiance. They are all dedicated to bring the positive vibes of drug-free living. These guys play in bands, make zines, run Youth 2 Youth Records and book a lot of shows in their town. Still keeping their Positive Mental Attitude in check and belting out some high-octane youth-crew-goes-punk-rock rhythms with impeccable vocal delivery, this band is a great fun to listen to. Rife with idealism, this Japanese formation dropped some inspiring youth crew anthems about straight edge, vegetarianism, anti-racism and improving yourself as an individual.

The following is a list of bands that have been associated with the straight edge subculture. Note that not all of these bands have or had all straight edge members, and some of them stopped identifying as such at some point during their careers. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
