Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon

As a new even bigger version of the Sailor Moon manga, the Eternal Edition, is being released in English tomorrow an even smaller version will soon be released in Japan! Japanese readers will be getting a Bunkobon version of the Sailor Moon manga which is a smaller and cheaper version of the manga. These are Bunkobon or Bunkoban Editions which are a size which is referred to in Japan as A6, which is roughly 4. In contrast the new Eternal Editions which are coming out in North America are even bigger than the large Complete Edition Japanese versions and measure a whopping 7. This is almost double the height and width of the new Bunkobon Japanese versions and roughly 3 times the surface area!

There are 12 volumes in our release of the main Sailor Moon series. It has some corrections and updated art, but most importantly it redistributed the chapters so that instead of the original 18 books, there are now 12 volumes. In addition to the main series, we also publish the two volume prequel Codename: Sailor V which is about Minako fighting crime by herself before she becomes Sailor Venus. We are publishing two bonus volumes called Sailor Moon Short Stories that collect all of the short, one-chapter-length extra side stories that were included with the original volume release. These will be out this fall!

In Juban, Tokyo , a middle-school student named Usagi Tsukino befriends Luna , a talking black cat who gives her a magical brooch enabling her to become Sailor Moon: a pretty moon soldier destined to save Earth from the forces of evil. Luna the black cat and Usagi assemble a team of fellow Sailor Soldiers to find their princess and the Silver Crystal. They encounter the studious Ami Mizuno, who awakens as Sailor Mercury ; Rei Hino, a local shrine maiden who awakens as Sailor Mars ; Makoto Kino, a tall transfer student who awakens as Sailor Jupiter ; and Minako Aino, a young aspiring idol who awakens as Sailor Venus , accompanied by her talking feline companion Artemis. Additionally, they befriend Mamoru Chiba, a high-school student who assists them on occasion as Tuxedo Mask.
