Why is red the colour of love?
Red is the color of extremes. Red is also a magical and religious color. It symbolized super-human heroism to the Greeks and is the color of the Christian crucifixion. Red was almost as rare and as expensive as purple in ancient days — a fact that may explain its magic and power. Red is the most popular color used on flags in the world.

It is easy to get a bit confused by color associations when you hear an isolated fact or what seems like the same meaning for more than one color. A reader wrote to me recently saying that he had heard that green is the color of love and was wondering if women find men that wear green more attractive. Green does have an association with love but not in the way he was thinking. Green is the color of healing, nature, balance, and good health, and when we associate green with love, it is on a global level. Green speaks to our desire to foster understanding and acceptance between people and to see the potential value and goodness of each person. Green does not represent the color of love on the level of passion between two people.
