Fahrenheit is a American dystopian drama film directed and co-written by Ramin Bahrani , based on the book of the same name by Ray Bradbury. It stars Michael B. Set in a future America, the film follows a "fireman" whose job it is to burn books , which are now illegal, only to question society after meeting a young woman. After premiering at the Cannes Film Festival , the film aired on HBO on May 19, receiving negative to mixed critical reviews. In the future, after a second civil war , most reading in America is confined to the Internet, called "the 9," and most books are banned except for greatly simplified versions of books such as The Bible , To the Lighthouse and Moby Dick .

In a terrifying care-free future, a young man, Guy Montag, whose job as a fireman is to burn all books, questions his actions after meeting a young woman Julie Kohler is prevented from suicide by her mother.
Based on the novel of the same name by Ray Bradbury , the film takes place in a controlled society in an oppressive future in which the government sends out firemen to destroy all literature to prevent revolution and thinking. This was Truffaut's first colour film  as well as his only English-language film. In the future, a totalitarian government employs a force known as Firemen to seek out and destroy all literature. They have the power to search anyone, anywhere, at any time, and burn any books they find. One of the firemen, Guy Montag, meets one of his neighbours, Clarisse, a young schoolteacher who may be fired due to her unorthodox views. The two have a discussion about his job, where she asks if he ever reads the books he burns. Curious, he begins to hide books in his house and read them, starting with Charles Dickens 's David Copperfield.
