Wanda e brunstetters amish friends cookbook
Wanda E. Brunstetters Amish Friends Gatherings Cookbook: Over 200 Recipes for Carry-In Favorites with Tips for Making the Most of the Occasion by Wanda E. BrunstetterThroughout history, food has served as a means of bringing community together. A time to fellowship and sharing news, forging a future in common purpose. This cookbook provides a means to this end. Ms. Brunstetter has compiled a treasure trove of recipes from submissions from her readers. This is a great go-to for those preparing to host a party at their home, a contribution to a pot luck dinner or any where a group gathers to share and break bread together.
There is a wide variety of topics covered including: beverages, snacks, breads, salads, side dishes, main dishes, desserts and weddings. The recipes range from simple to complex (this from reading them, there isnt a rating of any sort). As to be expected in any cookbook, recipes are offered based on taste and not on allergies or dietary restrictions. Likewise, since these are from the community and not a well-known chefs kitchen, there are a lot of back of the box recipes, that processed food manufacturers probably developed and promotes their name brand product as a chief ingredient. An example here would be soda manufactures creation of fruity beverages, which has their fruit soda as a key component along with seasonal fruit. Or Velvetta cheese in some of the main dishes and snacks, apparently Velvetta is a staple in the Amish diet. These are not the only offerings, there are some homemade creations, too. If you like desserts, this is the book for you! There are plenty of options that will definitely delight you.
Unlike some recent cookbooks I have reviewed, this cookbook has a broad selection of options and has a few hundred recipes. I should also state that while there are definitely lots of recipes for serving many, there are also more meals focused on serving a family of six. Plenty of recipes focus on side dishes too. I would say that about a third of the book is dedicated to recipes for desserts of every type. There are quite a few even dedicated to weddings which would be worth the price of the book alone!
Id like to add that as a person who has collected church, Ladies Auxiliary, and school recipe books, this is a keeper.
The design of this cookbook is gorgeous. The pictures are enough to make even a picky eater salivate. Interspersed among the sections are tips to accentuate the taste of various foods, suggestions such as make it the day before event, or heat it up before advice, great for those who dont cook much. It is spiral bound which some people prefer.
This is a great gift option for those who need some basic cooking expertise and want plenty of smiles and compliments for their efforts! If you have a fan of all things Amish in your life, this would probably be a great addition to their life. The holidays are coming sooner than you think.
Many thanks to Shiloh Run Press, Ms. Wanda Brunstetter and Goodreads for providing this Cookbook in exchange for my honest review.

Note from Wanda: As I travel, I love to collect and compile delicious recipes from Amish and Mennonite settlements around the country. When I put the word out among my Amish friends that I needed recipes for the book, I ended up with over 1,! It was a challenge to sort through them and decide which ones should be included, but I think my readers will be as pleased as I am with the variety of tasty recipes that were chosen. One of my favorite recipes in this cookbook is Lemon Shoofly Pie. Wanda E. Includes various information about the life of the Amish in various communities across the country, with full color photographs. Note from Wanda: My husband and I have had the privilege of eating in many Amish homes, as well as attended several Amish wedding meals.
