Proud to be hindu

What Hindus can and should be proud of

A bhadralok friend of mine is of the view that the Government of India should celebrate every December 16 as Vijay Diwas, Victory Day, to mark the surrender in of the Pakistani forces in Dhaka to the advancing Indian Army. My friend argues that such a celebration would take Indians in general, and Hindus in particular, out of the pacifist, defeatist mindset that he claims has so crippled them. The burden of Hinduism is it's flexibility. Hindus celeberate their festivals and do their fasts etc and go to temples, but Hindus never engage in a discourse. Ancient temples were learning centres too, where scholars engaged in discourses and made policies and advised the kings. One foreign policy made by the scholars was to give shelters to rufugees after they sign some binding contracts and never include them into the mainstream public. Include them only after they prove their loyalty.
