Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

I liked your comparison to The Big Bang Theory. You are right, this book has fandom as a detail, nit the main thing. As a light Fanfiction fan myself, I felt that the goal was to get her away from FF and into real life.

I just finished listening to Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, and I liked it even better than Eleanor and Park , which I raved about in my review. Fangirl could be considered Young Adult or New Adult fiction since its main character is a college freshman struggling to overcome her social ineptness in her first year at the University of Nebraska. Cath is an introvert who retreats into the fandom of Simon Snow a fictional equivalent of Harry Potter when her real life gets too difficult. She and her identical twin sister Wren grew up reading, and loving, the Simon Snow books and writing fan fiction that earns them some online popularity. But when the girls go to college, Wren wants to start a new life, unattached to her twin, and Cath finds herself floundering outside of her comfort zone. Rainbow Rowell has particular skill in writing fresh, vivid descriptions of people and emotions.

About this. But try not to be an idiot right this moment. Reagan finally turned away. She dropped her bag on the bed and grabbed her towel. The girl kind? She found The Outsiders wedged between the bed and the wall, and threw it on the floor.

Maybe Cath should try to catch her dad before he brought up the rest of her boxes. She ignored his hand. She was holding a box anyway, what did he expect from her? This was a mistake—this had to be a mistake. She knew that Pound was a co-ed dorm. The boy took the box out of her hands and set it on an empty bed.

The thing is that this book is a win or loose deal: You either adore it or hate it. She is the writer of one of the most successful fanfiction about it and is part of its online community — which is where the novel got its title. Needless to say that if you are a potterhead or grew up online like I did, you will definitely end up seeing yourself in Cath. I believe that Rainbow Rowell portrayed what makes us fans right. Still, it got the feeling right. The feeling you get when you talk about what you love and get to share it with other fans, the feeling you get when you finally do not feel alone in this world because others love the same thing as you do, the feeling you get when you love something more than words themselves.
