You don't have to be mad to review this book, but it helps. As I opened Ruby Wax' s Sane New World, I was sitting by my new SAD (seasonal.

Sane New World – Book Review – the layman manual for the mind

R uby Wax was the one who ran around shouting on TV a while back, extracting knicker-drawer secrets from celebrities. She was good at it too, even though the shows were always just as much about her as they were about Imelda's shoe habit or Pamela's top-dressing. But even then, Wax could do nothing to prevent episodes of depression so debilitating she often ended in the Priory. It was the voices that really did it, she says — not psychotic, just the ordinary nag-nag snip-snip internal monologue that most people think of as the sound of themselves. Now, Wax has reinvented herself. True to high-achieving form, she's not content with becoming just a spokeswoman for mental illness, she's making a bid for full-scale poster-girl status.

Ruby Wax's Sane New World

The mental health and mindfulness bestseller from A Mindfulness Guide for the Frazzled and How to be Human author Ruby Wax, who shows us why and how our minds can send us mad and how we can rewire our thinking to calm ourselves in a frenetic world. Ruby Wax - comedian, writer and mental health campaigner - shows us how our minds can jeopardize our sanity. If we are to break the cycle, we need to understand how our brains work, rewire our thinking and find calm in a frenetic world. It is not just for the 1 in 4 who suffer from mental illness - this book is for everyone. I found myself crying with laughter because it What a beautiful book!

Ruby Wax offers some self-help tips in her new book Sane New World. At least she managed to laugh. Ruby has already written and spoken extensively about her troubled childhood and her fight with mental illness but in this book she aims with evangelical zeal to show that the right kind of therapy can train the mind into less turbulent habits. We are not stuck with hardwired neuroses. We can rewire the brain. Sane New World is the result, something that Ruby refers to as a manual on running ourselves. She romps through the medical terms of neuroscience with enough aplomb, humour and jolly diagrams for even the neurologically challenged to understand.
