the road to chlifa ebook

La Route de Chlifa by Michèle Marineau

I read this in French for my French class. My exam was on this book and let me tell you, it took everything in me to finish this. Nothing happens until(view spoiler)[Maha gets raped and dies. (hide spoiler)] So, for the first 200 pages its just Karim in Montreal hating everything then back in Beyrouth where the civil war is still going on. And in Beyrouth all the way to Chlifa its just them walking...and walking...and walking. They run into close to no danger, there is no action, and most of all there is close to no emotion. I wouldnt have read this if I had the choice because its so boring.

Road Dogs: A Novel by Elmore Leonard

Karim has journeyed a long way from his home in war-torn Beirut to his new high school in Quebec. Now he must travel the difficult road to a life without war. There is contempt and racism here, too. But there is also My-Lan, a new companion in a new and challenging country. It is an adventure behind the headlines and a lesson in life you couldn't learn in the classroom.
