Band of Brothers: E Company, 506th Regiment, 101st Airborne from Normandy to Hitlers Eagles Nest by Stephen E. Ambrose

As good a rifle company as any, Easy Company, 506th Airborne Division, US Army, kept getting tough assignments--responsible for everything from parachuting into France early DDay morning to the capture of Hitlers Eagles Nest at Berchtesgaden. In Band of Brothers, Ambrose tells of the men in this brave unit who fought, went hungry, froze & died, a company that took 150% casualties & considered the Purple Heart a badge of office. Drawing on hours of interviews with survivors as well as the soldiers journals & letters, Stephen Ambrose recounts the stories, often in the mens own words, of these American heroes.

Both agree to marry on Easter Sunday but a rising against British Rule in Ireland has been planned for that very day. Plunkett is vital to the revolutionaries plans as he is the military director of operations. Grace while sympathising with his cause prefers to wait until the outcome of the rising before giving her hand in marriage. In some of the most incredible scenes ever staged, the rising is defeated and Plunkett along with his comrades are sentenced to death by execution shortly afterwards in Kilmainham Gaol. Grace and Joseph plead to marry in the small chapel in the prison that very night. Their wish is granted and after exchanging wedding vows in the dark damp confines of the prison chapel, Plunkett is taken out the next morning and executed.
