GO BIG OR GO HOME: Living Beyond Limits by Valentino Williams

Life comes with many challenges; some of which are unavoidable. But the fact that we have them does not mean that we should cower and allow what comes up against us to define who we are. In this life-changing book, Valentino Williams reveals two pathways which can determine the kind of life you want to live: the pathway bounded by inhibitions and restrictions or the pathway geared by possibilities, where life extends beyond limitations. Whether restricted by people, pain, prejudices, past or present circumstances, Go Big or Go Home promises to inject, stir up, and mobilize the spirit of faith inside of you. You will be inspired to expand your thinking, step out of your comfort zone, and go all the way! With a change in mindset you will defy the status quo, go beyond the average, shatter the glass ceilings placed above you and break through every barrier existent in your life.

Graduate school has vastly elevated my appreciation for design as a discipline; a discipline that can be a catalyst for innovation. Some of my classmates have become new friends and some of those new friends have become business partners. We are now about 3 weeks away from graduation and a number of us are asking the question: so, what happens next? Do I go into one of the big design firms and learn from the gurus? Should I go back to my previous employer and industry to bring a fresh perspective to the firm? How about that speculative project I did in second semester? Is it start-up worthy?

We are now only days away from the World Humanitarian Summit and the launch of the new Education Cannot Wait fund to provide education to children living in emergencies and protracted crises -- 75 million children were affected in alone. The launch of this Fund is the single most important collective move to change the nature of humanitarian response to include education and has the potential to shift the education sector from tolerating resource scarcity to supporting many more of the most vulnerable children and their families and communities to imagine and rebuild their futures. Despite this, sources close to those making funding decisions report that reaching the goal to fully fund the first year of Education Cannot Wait is at risk. The Education Cannot Wait fund is the result of countless hours of work from policymakers, education experts, youth advocates, non-governmental and civil society organizations, several United Nations agencies, academics, business leaders, high-level champions, and countless others. A Technical Strategy Group co-chaired by the UK and Canada on which I served comprised of more than a dozen senior staff in UN agencies, donor agencies, NGOs and the private sector and their brilliant support teams worked for many months discussing, debating and designing the initial approach and mandate of a new platform and Fund.
