Located km north of Brisbane, Cardwell's claim to fame is that it is the only town on the Bruce Highway between Townsville and Cairns which is on the coast. While this is true it is a dubious benefit to the town as the water is muddy from the streams which flow into the Hinchinbrook Channel and infested with crocodiles, sharks and box jellyfish - particularly during the summer months. You can launch your boat here or at the Menuga boat ramp to the north.
