Ever since Warner Bros. Interactive revealed that Middle-earth: Shadow of War would feature loot boxes, fans have been skeptical regarding their implementation. With the game finally in players' hands, accusations of the system functioning as a pay-to-win scheme are running rampant - particularly as it applies to the game's true ending. You have been warned. Shadow of War is ostensibly about how good can easily become evil, how those with power become the corruption they once fought against - after all, you don't go through hours and hours of enslaving sentient beings and come out the other side a shining example of purity. When it becomes clear to Talion that his ghost buddy Celebrimbor only seeks to replace the evil Sauron as the sole bastion of power in Middle-earth and not kill him, the two split up.

The patch also adds a fresh clan of orcs, lowers the bar to unlock the true ending as part of the Shadow War end game content, increases the level cap to 80, and adds in new story content and gear to Shadow of War to add depth to the experience so that it feels less like an end-game grind. Most of the bug fixes and the new content are more than fun enough to make playing through to the end interesting, and the nature of the nemesis system itself means that a fresh playthrough will feel like a whole new adventure either way. Particularly if the Shadow Wars end game content felt a little dry or grindy to you this new update is a good excuse to return because it makes the whole experience much less of a difficult hurdle with no significant payoff. We felt older, wiser, and we were able to focus on the best part of Middle-earth: Shadow of War , the Nemesis system.
There are only four fortresses involved, but you have to keep on taking them or holding them over and over. Shadow of War has 63 missions that take you through most of the story of Talion, the Ranger of Gondor who teams up with the wraith ghost of Celebrimbor to take on the Sauron, the Dark Lord. The number of missions multiply if you fail any one of them, as I did many times. That extends the length considerably. But de Plater insists that you do not have to buy loot crates with real money to get to the endings. I would agree with that, as I never bought anything in the game and managed to finish. Most of the narrative comes through the Minas Ithil campaign, but this ends without a true resolution.
